The Harlot's Progress.  Plate V.  The Death.  1732.

The mourners are gathered in the funeral parlour before Moll's burial.  The inscription on the coffin reads "M. Hackabout died Sep 2nd 1731 Aged 23".  The parson on the left is distracted by his proximity of the girl next to him, and spills his drink.  He appears to be enjoying himself, and she is not averse.  Moll's young son sits by the coffin playing with his top.  On the right another girl is being chatted up, possibly by the funeral director.  While he pulls her glove on she carefully removes the silk handkerchief from his pocket.  Moll's old maid sits bitterly weeping in a corner, probably helped somewhat by the bellarmine (bottle) of  Kants, a type of brandy, which stands beside her.  The other women in the room are probably all fellow prostitutes who have clubbed together to pay for the funeral, in the hope that as much will be done for them when their time comes.
