The Company of Strollers 1738
In the top right corner a boy may be seen who has climbed up to peer down through a hole in the roof at the motley scene of a touring stage company. All is in disarray - the actresses are partially dressed, props and costumes are littered everywhere, Cupid is up a ladder reaching for a pair of stockings, a cat is having its tail pricked to draw blood, a baby is being fed by someone dressed as an eagle (Jupiter), but no doubt in a short time a wonderful play will be produced. | ||
