SHAKESPEARE'S LONDON

A view of London Bridge circa 1616

From Visscher's Panoramic view of London circa 1616. The church in the foreground is St. Mary's Overis. The Bridge Gate has heads of executed traitors set up on stakes. In the distance the tall spire is of St. Dunstan in the East. Barking and Hackney are marked in the distance, in the top right of the picture. Billingsgate, the fish market, is also marked, right of centre, to the left of the large sailing vessel, where many masted boats are seen to be moored close together
